Japan’s steel scrap exports up 12.6 percent in January-July

In July this year, Japanese ferrous scrap exports amounted to 566,718 mt, increasing by 30.2 percent compared to 435,132 mt in the same month of the previous year, according to customs statistics. In the January-July period this year, the country exported 4.03 million mt of scrap, increasing by 12.6 percent year on year.

During the given period, South Korea was the biggest importer of Japanese scrap, importing 1.77 million mt, down by 6.4 percent year on year. South Korea was followed by Vietnam and Taiwan, importing 880,083 mt and 580,934 mt of scrap, up 11.6 percent and 89.7 percent, respectively, year on year.

Meanwhile, Japanese scrap exports to Bangladesh amounted to 217,222 mt in the January-July period this year, up from 165,150 mt in the same period of the previous year.
