According to the data released by the Japan Ship Exporters' Association (JSEA), Japanese new ship export orders in February this year increased by 289.4 percent on tonnage basis compared to January, rising to nine ships, compared to five ships recorded in January, totaling 654,700 gross tons, consisting of six bulk carriers. In February last year, Japan's new ship export orders had totaled seven ships amounting to 389,500 gross tons.
In the first two months of this year, Japanese shipbuilders received new export orders for a total of 14 ships with an aggregate of 822,800 gross tons, up 62.7 percent year on year.
On the other hand, in February this year Japan delivered 25 ships for export, totaling 1.01 million gross tons, falling from 45 ships totaling 1.69 million gross tons recorded in January. In February 2016, Japan's new ship deliveries for export had totaled 26 ships with 1.2 million gross tons.
Meanwhile, in the January-February period of the current year, Japan delivered 70 ships for export, totaling 2.7 million gross tons, falling by eight percent year on year.
