Japan’s new ship export orders down 6.7 percent in 2024

According to the data released by the Japan Ship Exporters’ Association (JSEA), Japanese new ship export orders in December last year moved up by 286.9 percent on tonnage basis compared to the previous month, increasing to 19 ships, including 14 carriers and five tankers, compared to six ships recorded in November, totaling 913,400 gross tons.

In 2024, Japanese shipbuilders received new export orders for a total of 251 ships with an aggregate of 11.16 million gross tons, down 6.7 percent year on year.

On the other hand, in December, Japan delivered 15 ships for export, totaling 547,304 gross tons, compared to 11 ships totaling 414,005 gross tons recorded in November.

Meanwhile, in 2024, Japan delivered 203 ships for export, totaling 7.95 million gross tons, decreasing by 12.4 percent year on year.
