Japan’s HRP and HRS shipments up 1.0 percent in May from Apr

In May this year, Japan’s hot rolled plate and sheet shipments increased by 1.0 percent compared to the previous month and were up by 1.0 percent from 728,585 mt recorded in the same month of 2022, amounting to 735,933 metric tons, according to the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF) data. In the given month, 68.9 percent of shipments were made to the domestic market, while the remaining 31.1 percent were made to the export markets. In the given month, Japan’s hot rolled plate and sheet production amounted to 715,797 mt, increasing by 0.1 percent month on month and down by 5.2 percent year on year.

Meanwhile, in May Japan’s hot rolled strip shipments amounted to 1.51 million mt, moving up by 13.2 percent from the previous month and increasing by 2.8 percent year on year. 17.7 percent of shipments were made to the domestic market, while the remaining 82.3 percent were made to the export markets. In the given month, Japan’s hot rolled strip production amounted to 1.51 million mt, up by 15.1 percent month on month and down by 3.3 percent year on year.
