Japan’s HRP and HRS shipments down 6.1 percent in June from May

In June this year, Japan’s hot rolled plate and sheet shipments were down by 6.1 percent compared to the previous month and by 11.5 percent from 781,957 mt recorded in the same month of 2022, amounting to 692,005 metric tons, according to the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF) data. In the given month, 69.6 percent of shipments were made to the domestic market, while the remaining 30.4 percent were made to the export markets. In the given month, Japan’s hot rolled plate and sheet production amounted to 680,756 mt, down by 4.9 percent month on month and by 15.3 percent year on year.

Meanwhile, in June Japan’s hot rolled strip shipments amounted to 1.46 million mt, moving down by 3.1 percent from the previous month and increasing by 9.3 percent year on year. 10.2 percent of shipments were made to the domestic market, while the remaining 79.8 percent were made to the export markets. In the given month, Japan’s hot rolled strip production amounted to 1.47 million mt, down by 2.4 percent month on month and up by 21.1 percent year on year.
