Japan's national public broadcasting organization NHK has announced that the government of Japan is preparing to inform the World Trade Organization (WTO) that it is planning to take retaliatory steps against the Section 232 tariffs imposed by the US.

According to NHK, the Japanese government is considering imposing tariffs on exports from the US worth around $409 million, equivalent to the duties imposed by the US on exports from Japan.

However, NHK stated that the Japanese government will likely to continue to seek exemption from the US tariffs while hinting at the possibility of taking such retaliatory action against the US.
