Italy’s crude steel output decreases 11.2 percent in May

In May this year, Italian crude steel output decreased by 11.2 percent year on year to 2.316 million metric tons, according to the figures released by the Italian steel producers association Federacciai. May is the 14th month in a row in which a year-on-year fall in output has been witnessed and is the seventh month in a row in which the percentage decrease has been in double digits.

The year-on-year decline in output was almost unchanged in May compared to the 11.6 percent decrease posted by Federacciai in April.

In the January-May period of the current year, total Italian crude steel output amounted to 10.497 million mt, down almost 2 million mt or 15.6 percent compared to the same period of 2012.
