According to the statistics released by the Italian steel producers' association Federacciai, in the January-May period this year Italy's steel imports reached 6.205 million metric tons, decreasing by 26.3 percent, while its steel exports totaled 8.208 million metric tons, up 9.8 percent, both compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. Accordingly, Italy achieved a steel trade surplus of over 2 million mt in the given period.
