Ipsco reaches tentative agreement with laborers

Illinois-based steelmaker Ipsco Inc. announced Tuesday that it has reached a tentative agreement for labor contracts with United Steelworkers (USW) members in Canada. The contracts would cover 1'000 workers in Regina, Saskatchewan, and Calgary, Alberta. IPSCO vice president and chief human resources officer Raymond Rarey, said, "I am extremely pleased we were able to negotiate this long term agreement with the USW. I am optimistic that the contracts will be ratified so we can continue to provide well-paid secure jobs to our employees and an uninterrupted supply of quality steel and pipe to our customers." The new labor contracts will expire in July 2011, replacing current contracts which expire in July 2006. It is up to the USW locals 5890 and 6673 to ratify these agreements. Ipsco produces a variety of flat rolled and tubular products at a number of locations throughout the U.S. and Canada.
