Industrial output up 0.4% in euro area and EU-27 in Feb from Jan

In February this year, seasonally-adjusted industrial production increased by 0.4 percent in the euro area and in the EU-27, as compared with January of the current year. In January, production had decreased by 0.6 percent and 0.5 percent month on month in the respective areas. In February this year compared with February 2012, industrial production decreased by 3.1 percent in the euro area and by 2.5 percent in the EU-27. These figures are released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Union.

As compared to January, in February this year production of non-durable consumer goods decreased by 1.5 percent in the euro area and by 1.3 percent in the EU-27, while capital goods rose by 0.9 percent in the euro area and by 0.6 percent in the EU-27. Meanwhile, the production of durable consumer goods increased by 1.3 percent in the euro area and remained stable in the EU-27. In February this year, intermediate goods fell by 0.1 percent in the euro area but increased by 0.2 percent in the EU-27. Production of energy rose by 2.6 percent in the euro area and by 1.8 percent in the EU-27, month on month.

Among the member states for which data are available, in February this year industrial production fell in 12 states and rose in 10 states, on month-on-month basis. The largest decreases were registered in Estonia and Malta (both -3.9%), Lithuania (-3.7%) and Denmark (-3.0%), while the highest increases were in the Netherlands and Slovenia (both +3.4%), the Czech Republic (+1.6%) and Portugal (+1.3%).

As compared to the same month of 2012, in February this year production of capital goods declined by 3.5 percent in the euro area and by 2.8 percent in the EU-27, while intermediate goods fell by three percent and 2.5 percent respectively. Durable consumer goods fell by 4.8 percent in the euro area and by 4.5 percent in the EU-27, while production of energy decreased by 6.1 percent in the euro area and by 5.9 in the EU-27. The production of non durable consumer goods rose by 0.1 percent in the euro area and by 0.7 percent in the EU-27, year on year.

Among the member states for which data are available, in February this year industrial production fell in 16 states and rose in six, on year-on-year basis. The largest decreases were registered in Finland (-7.5%), Spain (-6.5%), Greece (-3.9%) and Italy (-3.8%), while the highest increases were seen in Romania (+6.5%), Bulgaria (+5.1%) and Slovenia (+3.3%).
