Indian passenger car sales (dispatches from factory to dealer) hit an all-time monthly high of 363,000 units in September this year, marking a growth of 2.4 percent over the corresponding month of the previous year, according to data sourced from the industry on Monday, October 2.
The industry also achieved its highest-ever second quarter sales in the July-September quarter of the fiscal year 2023-24 at 1.076 million units, the data showed.
Retail sales as represented by new registrations in September were reported at 342,000 units, up 1.1 percent year on year.
In September this year, he largest passenger car maker in terms of market share, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), reported sales of 150,000 units, up 1.6 percent from September 2022, while the second largest car maker Hyundai Motors India Limited (HMIL) reported sales of 71,641 units, up nine percent year on year.
In contrast, Tata Motors Limited sold 45,317 units in September, a decline of five percent year on year.
Mahindra and Mahindra sold 75,604 units, up 17 percent, and MG Motors reported sales of 5,003 units, rising by 31 percent, year on year.
Toyota Kirloskar India Limited reported sales of 23,590 units, marking a growth of 53 percent year on year.
