The government of the southern Indian state of Karnataka has firmed up plans to set up three registered automobile scrapping facilities by three private entities, government officials said on Wednesday, September 20.
The approvals will be granted to the private entities before the end of this month, with each facility to entail an investment of $1.2 million.
The officials said that, while there are 60 vehicle scrapping facilities operational across the country, Karnataka state did not have any at present.
The first of the facilities will become operational at Devanahalli by the end of December.
Under the rules in Karnataka, all government vehicles that have run for 15 years have to be scrapped mandatorily, the officials said.
