India’s JSW Steel Limited will double its steelmaking capacity to 50 million mt per year, over the next three years, company chairman Sajjan Jindal said in a statement on Friday, July 7.
More significantly, he said that the entire 50 million mt steelmaking capacity would be “fired” by renewable energy after three years.
“Today, at JSW Steel we are at 28 million mt capacity and next year we will be at 37 million mt capacity and in three years’ time we will be 50 million mt,” he said.
“JSW Steel will probably be the first steel company in the world which will be a 50 million mt capacity steel producer operating on 100 percent renewable power. That is the plan we are doing,” Jindal said.
