India’s JSW Steel Limited achieved a consolidated crude steel production of 7.03 million mt in the third quarter (October-December) of the fiscal year 2024-25, up 2.3 percent year on year, according to a company statement on Friday, January 10.

The company achieved crude steel output of 6.82 million mt from its Indian operations, a rise of three percent year on year. Capacity utilisation of its domestic mills was at 91 percent during the third quarter.

Production and capacity utilisation in the quarter were affected due to temporary maintenance activity in October at one of the blast furnaces at the Dolvi steel mill, which resumed normal operations on November 1, 2024, the company said.

JSW Steel's 5 million mt integrated steel project at Vijayanagar, set up by the wholly-owned subsidiary of the company, JSW Vijayanagar Metallics Ltd (JVML), is progressing well, the company reported.

After the commissioning of the 4.5 milion mt blast furnace, raw material handling system and sinter plant in the second quarter, JVML commissioned one out of the two converters and the casters at the Steel Melt Shop (SMS) during the third quarter.

Once fully ramped up, the total crude steel capacity at Vijayanagar will increase to 17.5 million mt per year, contributing to JSW Steel's overall Indian operations' crude steel capacity rising from 29.2 million mt per year at present to 34.2 million mt, the company said.
