Indian passenger car makers have reported robust sales during August this year, according to the compilation of sales data released by the companies on Monday, September 4.
The largest domestic car maker in terms of market share, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) reported sales (dispatches from factory to dealers) at 156,114 units in August, up 16 percent, while the second-largest car company Hyundai Motors India Limited (HMIL) reported sales of 53,830 units in the given month, up 8.72 percent, both year on year.
Toyota Kirloskar Motors Limited has reported sales of 22,910 units, up 53 percent, and Mahindra & Mahindra sold 37,270 units, recording a growth of 26 percent, year on year.
MG Motors Limited reported a sales growth of 10 percent to 4,185 units.
The only exception was Tata Motors, whose passenger car division reported sales of 45,513 units, registering a decline of 3.5 percent.
According to data collated from industry sources, total passenger car sales during the April-August period of the fiscal year 2023-24 have been recorded at 722,296 units, up 11.78 percent over the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.
