Indian automobile retail sales, across all categories, as denoted by new registrations touched an all-time high of 29,671,064 units in the fiscal 2025-26 with a rise of 13.3 percent year on year, according to data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers’ Association (FADA) on Monday, April 6.
The growth was structurally driven by improving affordability, rising demand for mobility across urban and rural markets, and a diversified powertrain mix.
Passenger vehicle sales were up 13 percent year on year to 4.7 million units, while commercial vehicles grew 11.7 percent to 1.06 million units, FADA data showed.
Three-wheelers rose 11.7 percent to 1,363,412 units, while tractor sales were recorded at one million units, a rise of 18.9 percent year on year.
Automobile retail sales across all segments in March 2026 were reported at 2,690,000 units, a rise of 25.3 percent over March 2025.
Two-wheeler sales in March 2026 were 1,951,006 units, up 28.68 percent over March 2025, while passenger car sales at 440,144 units posted a rise of 21.48 percent.
Commercial vehicle sales were up 15.12 percent to 102,536 in March 2026, up 15.2 percent, and three-wheelers were up 10.52 percent to 109,777 units, FADA said.
