Indian automobile companies registered robust double-digit growth in passenger car sales in May this year, as represented by dispatches from factory to dealers, compilation of data released by auto companies showed on Friday, June 2.
The largest passenger car maker in terms of market share, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), reported sales of 143,708 units in May this year, up 15.45 percent, while the second largest manufacturer Hyundai Motors India Limited (HMIL) achieved sales of 48,601 units up 14.91 percent.
Mahindra & Mahindra’s passenger car division reported sales of 32,883 units, up 23 percent, and M G Motors sold 5,006 units up 25 percent, year on year.
Nissan India reported sales of 2,618 units, up 23 percent, and Toyota Kirloskar Limited sold 19,379 units, 89.6 percent higher than in May 2022.
The only exception to the trend was Tata Motors Limited which registered a 1.6 percent decline in May sales to 74,793 units.
