Indian passenger car makers report positive sales growth in July, pace of rise eases

Indian passenger car makers achieved positive sales growth, as denoted by dispatches from factories to dealers, in July this year, but at a slower pace on month-on-month basis, according to sales figures released by various manufacturers on Wednesday, August 2.

The largest passenger car maker in terms of market share, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), reported sales of 181,630 units in July this year, up 3.2 percent year on year.

The second largest passenger car manufacturer, Hyundai Motors India Limited (HMIL), reported sales of 66,701 units, up four percent year on year, while Kirloskar Toyota Motors Limited achieved sales of 21,911 units, up 11 percent year on year, marking its highest-ever monthly sales.

MG Motors Limited reported sales of 5,012 units, up 25 percent, while Tata Motors reported a one percent decline in sales to 80,633 units, year on year.

Mahindra & Mahindra’s sales came to 66,124 units in July this year, up 18 percent year on year.
