Euro area industrial output down 1.6 percent in June from May

In June this year, seasonally-adjusted industrial production decreased by 1.6 percent in the euro area, while falling by 1.5 percent in the EU-28, as compared with May. Industrial production in May had increased by 0.8 percent in the euro area and by 0.9 percent in the EU-28, on month-on-month basis. In June this year compared with June 2018, industrial production fell by 2.6 percent in the euro area and decreased by 1.9 percent in the EU-28. These figures are released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Union.

As compared to May, in June this year the production of capital goods decreased by four percent in the euro area and 3.5 percent in the EU-28, while the production of non-durable consumer goods decreased by 2.8 percent in the euro area, while decreasing by 2.2 percent in the EU-28. In June this year, the production of energy was down by 0.2 percent in the euro area and by 0.4 percent in the EU-28, and the production of durable goods declined by 1.2 percent in the euro area and by 1.4 percent in the EU-28, all month on month. Meanwhile, the production of intermediate goods fell by 0.8 percent in the euro area and by 0.9 percent in the EU-28, month on month.

Among the member states, in June the highest month-on-month increases were registered in Lithuania (1.8%), Malta (1.8%) and Latvia (1.5%) and the highest decreases in Ireland (8.8%), Denmark (7.6%) and Portugal (4.5%).

As compared to the same month of 2018, in June this year production of energy decreased by 0.1 percent in the euro area and increased by 0.6 percent in the EU-28. In the same month, production of intermediate goods fell by 2.6 percent in the euro area and by 2.0 percent in the EU-28, and production of capital goods moved down by 4.4 percent in the euro area and by 3.7 percent in the EU-28, all year on year. In June this year, production of non-durable consumer goods rose by 0.1 percent in the euro area and by 0.2 percent in the EU-28 and production of durable consumer goods was down by 1.0 percent in the euro area and by 0.5 percent in the EU-28, all year-on-year basis.

Among the member states for which data are available, in June the largest year-on-year decreases in industrial production were registered in Germany (6.2%), Croatia (5.6%) and Portugal (5.6%), while the highest increases were observed in Estonia (7.4%), Latvia (4.4%), Denmark (4.2%) and Hungary (4.1%).
