According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Union, in May this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-27) increased by 0.2 percent compared to April this year and decreased by 0.4 percent compared to the same month of 2022. In April, production in the construction sector had moved down by 0.8 percent month on month.
In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in May also increased by 0.2 percent month on month and 0.1 percent year on year. In April, production had decreased by 0.6 percent month on month.
Building construction in the EU-27 in May moved up by 0.2 percent month on month and down by 0.9 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region increased by 0.4 percent month on month and by 3.0 percent year on year. In the euro area, building construction was up by 0.4 percent month on month and moved down by 0.3 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region increased by 0.1 percent month on month and by 2.7 percent year on year.
As compared to May 2022, construction output in May this year increased by 24.6 percent in Slovenia, by 10.6 percent in Romania, and by 7.1 percent in Spain, while it decreased by 12.0 percent in Hungary, by 6.5 percent in Italy, and by 6.3 percent in Sweden.
As compared to April, construction output in May this year increased by 5.5 percent in Slovakia, by 3.7 percent in Romania and Slovenia, and by 3.6 percent in the Netherlands, while it decreased by 2.8 percent in Belgium, by 2.5 percent in the Austria, and by 1.7 percent in Hungary.
