According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Union, in August this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-27) decreased by 0.7 percent compared to July this year and grew by 0.2 percent compared to the same month of 2022. In July, production in the construction sector had moved up by 0.8 percent month on month.
In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in August went down by 1.1 percent month on month and 0.1 percent year on year. In July, production had risen by 1.0 percent month on month.
Building construction in the EU-27 in August moved down by 0.4 percent month on month and by 0.6 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region decreased by 0.9 percent month on month and increased by 3.8 percent year on year. In the euro area, building construction was down by 0.7 percent month on month and 0.6 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region decreased by 2.1 percent month on month and increased by 2.6 percent year on year.
As compared to August 2022, construction output in August this year increased by 19.3 percent in Romania, by 19.0 percent in Slovenia, and by 6.9 percent in Spain, while it decreased by 6.5 percent in Belgium, by 5.6 percent in Finland and by 3.1 percent in Austria.
As compared to July, construction output in August increased by 4.7 percent in Romania, by 2.1 percent in Poland, and by 2.0 percent in the Czech Republic, while it decreased by 5.0 percent in both Belgium and Hungary, by 2.4 percent in Germany, and by 1.8 percent in Austria.
