Officials at Indian steelmaker JSW Steel have said that they have tightened measures as the number of coronavirus cases at the Ballari plant has increased. The Ballari district administration has announced some restrictions to control the spread of the virus at the plant. The administration has prohibited the movement of people from outside into the JSW Steel plant from June 18 to June 30.

JSW Steel stated that there are about 117 active cases and that they have isolated the primary and secondary contacts after the first case was detected.

The virus cases have not disrupted production at the steel mill which has an annual capacity of 12 million mt, SteelOrbis understands. The company has asked 11,000 of its 30,000 employees to stay at home until further notice.

The company’s officials said that they are operating in two shifts and that production is expected to return to normal levels within a day. The government has agreed that economic activities and industrial operations should continue with the measures issued by the health department.
