In the first quarter of this year, Colombia exported 14,242 mt of ferronickel, down 55.1 percent, with a value of $46.02 million, decreasing by 33.9 percent, both year on year, as announced by the Colombian National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE). In March this year, the country's ferronickel exports amounted to 9,592 mt, falling by 28.3 percent, while the revenue from these exports was $30.85 million, up 0.9 percent, both compared to March 2016.
In the January-March period, Colombia's iron and steel export volume totaled 34,599 mt, down 13.9 percent, with a value of $71.86 million, declining by 12.3 percent, both on year-on-year basis. In March, Colombian iron and steel exports amounted to 17,404 mt, increasing by 0.3 percent, and were worth $41.7 million, up 16.5 percent, both compared to the same month of 2016.
