Colombian crude steel output up in last two months of 2017

Colombian crude steel output in the months of November and December rose 8 and 5 percent, year-on-year, respectively, according to data released by the country’s Committee of Steel Producers (CPA).

CPA had delayed the release of crude steel output data since November, when production totaled was 112,655 mt. December production reached 102,053 mt.

According to CPA, long finished steel output in November was 130,126 mt, up from 100,556 mt in the same month of the year prior. In December, long finished steel production declined to 125,669 mt when compared to November. On the other hand, long steel output grew 22.6 percent in December on a year-on-year basis.

As for the full year of 2017, Colombian crude steel production reached 1.2 million mt, stable from 1.2 million mt in 2016.

Long finished steel production in 2017 rose 7 percent, year-on-year, to 1.4 million mt, CPA said.
