Colombian crude steel output in April plummeted 71.8 percent, year-on-year, to 33,089 mt, the Committee of Steel Producers (CPA) said. The low crude steel production level reflects the effect the Covid-19 pandemic has had on the Colombian steel industry.

According to CPA, Colombian crude steel production in April fell 66.8 percent, month-on-month.

Colombian long finished steel products were the most affected due to Covid-19, with long finished steel output in April totaling 9,720 mt, down from 117,271 mt in April 2019, and down 88.8 percent from March 2020.

As for the accumulated period of January to April, Colombian crude steel production reached 345,173 mt, 19.5 percent down, year-on-year. Following the same downtrend, Colombian long finished steel output in the January-April period fell 27.4 percent, year-on-year.
