CAAM: NEV sales in China down 3.7 percent in January-March 2026

In the January-March period this year, production and sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in China amounted to 2.965 million units and 2.96 million units, down 6.8 percent and 3.7 percent year on year, respectively, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).

In March alone, production and sales of new energy vehicles in China amounted to 1.231 million units and 1.252 million units, down 3.6 percent and up 1.2 percent year on year, while up 77.3 percent and 63.7 percent month on month.

In March, China’s new energy vehicle exports totaled 371,000 units, up 1.3-fold year on year.

In the first three months this year, China’s new energy vehicle exports amounted to 954,000 units, up 1.2-fold year on year.

The strong increase in NEV exports has become the core driving force behind the growth of China’s automobile exports, which amounted to 2.226 million units in the January-March period, up 56.7 percent year on year.
