In the January-April period this year, production and sales of automotive vehicles in China amounted to 9.614 million units and 9.574 million units, decreasing by 5.5 percent and 4.8 percent year on year, respectively, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).
In the given period, China’s vehicle exports amounted to 3.127 million units, up 61.5 percent year on year.
In April alone, production and sales of automotive vehicles in China amounted to 2.575 million units and 2.526 million units, decreasing by 11.7 percent and 12.9 percent month on month, while decreasing by 1.7 percent and 2.5 percent year on year, respectively. In April, China’s vehicle exports totaled 901,000 units, up 3.0 percent month on month, while increasing by 74.4 percent year on year.
In April, production and sales of automotive vehicles in China declined both month on month and year on year, signaling softening end-market demand. Meanwhile, the Tomb-sweeping Day holiday and Labor Day holiday negatively affected the vehicle market due to the lower number of working days in April. At the same time, March saw an end-of-quarter sales push period, resulting in a relatively high base for the month-on-month comparison with April.
