Bayi Steel starts construction on steel processing projects in Xinjiang

Xinjiang Uyghur autonomous region-based Chinese steelmaker Bayi Iron and Steel Co. (Bayi Steel), a subsidiary of major Chinese steel group Baosteel, has announced that it has started construction on two steel processing projects, located at Kashgar and Bachu, in the Xinjiang region.

The Bachu project is divided into two phases. The first phase includes construction of an ERW tube production facility with an annual output of 100,000 mt, a cold rolled ribbed bar production facility also with an annual output facility of 100,000 mt, and related auxiliary facilities. The second phase involves construction of a hot dip galvanized (HDG) steel pipe project with an annual output capacity of 100,000 mt.

Meanwhile, the Kashgar project, which consists of two phases, will be completed by 2015. The processing capacity of both steel and other metal products will total 1 million mt per year.
