Inner Mongolia-based Chinese steel producer Baotou Steel Group has stated that the wind power sector has become the main area of application for its wide and thick plate products.

Baotou Steel's wide and thick plate production line was put into production in 2008. At present, the annual output capacity of the line has been raised to 500,000 mt, mainly on the back of the significant expansion of demand for steel plate for wind power applications.

Chen Ruhai, director of the wide and thick plate division of Baotou Steel, stated that the company's sales in Inner Mongolia of steel plate for wind power applications account for 60 percent of its total sales of such products, with the remainder being sold in the provinces of Gansu and Hebei and also in Xinjiang autonomous region.
