According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), the country's seasonally adjusted new motor vehicle sales in October totaled 81,122 units, increasing by 3.68 percent month on month and up 3.27 percent compared to October 2008. New motor vehicle sales in Australia have been rising steadily since July this year, with the October sales volume constituting the second highest monthly figure, after June, achieved so far this year.

In the month in question, passenger vehicle sales accounted for 57.8 percent of the total motor vehicle sales, SUVs took up 19.76 percent, with other vehicles accounting for 23.43 percent.

According to the ABS report, following the Federal Government Budget in May this year, the eligibility period for the Small Business and General Business Tax Break was extended to December 2009. The rebate level was also increased for small businesses, allowing eligible businesses to claim an increased tax deduction on the purchase of new motor vehicles.
