Major Latin American special steel plate producer, ArcelorMittal’s Tubarão unit in Brazil, has recently completed the revamp of the suspension system and tendons of converter No. 2, one of the three largest converters in Brazil, German plantmaker SMS Group has announced.

Located in the Espírito Santo state of Brazil, the Tubarão plant has an annual hot rolled plate and coil production capacity of 7.5 million mt, making it the third largest Brazilian producer of flat rolled steel.

SMS Group developed a solution that included detailed engineering, aiming to facilitate the installation of the new suspension system in the converter, including cryogenics to freeze parts to ensure the safety and quality of the equipment.
