Luxembourg-based steelmaker ArcelorMittal’s blast furnace No. 4 at its Dunkirk plant in France was halted after a fire broke out on Thursday, March 30, according to local media reports. The workers at the plant were evacuated during the fire and no one was injured. The company is investigating the origin of the fire.

The blast furnace No. 4 has an annual production capacity of approximately 3.6 million mt.

The blast furnace No. 3 will continue its operations to fulfill customer demands as the production level of the plant will decrease.

This is the second fire following the one which occurred at blast furnace A at the company’s Asturias plant in Gijón, Spain, on March 22, resulting in the halting of the blast furnace, as SteelOrbis previously reported.
