In the Mexican domestic market, welded steel structural pipe (115mm) prices closed at US$911/mt ex-mill in the first week of March, while in the second week prices increased US$8/mt to reach US$919/mt ex-mill.
Structural steel tubing (115mm) prices were at US$835/mt ex-mill in the first week of the month and dropped $4/mt to close at $831/mt ex-mill in the second week.
Additionally, the price for hollow structural sections (square and rectangle, ASTM-A500 GB) reached US$1,027/mt ex-mill in the first week of the month, and rose to $1,043/mt ex-mill the following week.
For now, sources tell SteelOrbis that because the construction industry has not "taken off as much as the steelmaking industry requires," prices have had minimal variations. The construction industry grew at a marginal rate of 0.1 percent in January, which was explained by more specialized jobs for construction and civil engineering work or heavy work. According to National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), even though the construction industry only grew by 0.1 percent in January, demand for building materials such as steel pipes, steel poles and steel profiles showed improvement.
