Over the past two weeks, ex-Turkey official merchant bar prices have fallen on average by $25/mt to $690-710/mt FOB for May shipment, amid the pessimistic mood in the import scrap segment, which has caused international buyers to postpone their purchases. A few merchant bar inquiries have been received from the Balkan region. In addition, a few merchant bar re-rollers are applying aggressive pricing policies and have even recently been testing slightly below $670/mt FOB depending on the region and quantity, SteelOrbis has heard. The SteelOrbis Turkish billet import CFR-based daily reference price currently stands at $565-580/mt, versus $575-600/mt two weeks ago.
Most international merchant bar buyers are monitoring the import scrap and billet price trends and are exerting pressure for additional discounts.
