A source from a Brazilian producer told SteelOrbis that Galvalume exports to destinations other than the US remain are negotiated at $960/mt, against $1,000/mt over the last five weeks, FOB conditions for the AZ-150 product.
The source mentioned that exports remain a marginal interest for producers, who are currently focused on the domestic market, with prices around the equivalent to $1,600/mt, full taxes except IPI, when considering sales by distributors in small volumes. Direct sales at larger volumes by the producers are usually entitled to significant price reductions.
The production of Galvalume by CSN and ArcelorMittal, licensed by BIEC to produce Galvalume in Brazil, is not sufficient to cover the domestic consumption in normal economic conditions.
The shortage is usually covered by other aluminum-zinc coated products and by imports, usually from China. In December 2018 Brazil received 13,500 mt of the product from China at $797/mt, FOB conditions.
