The World Steel Association (worldsteel) has announced a leadership transition, with Henrik Adam set to take over as director general in the fourth quarter of 2026. He will succeed Edwin Basson, who is set to retire after more than 15 years leading the association.
Henrik Adam currently serves as executive chairman of Tata Steel Netherlands Holding BV, president of EUROFER, and chairman of the Steel Institute VDEh in Germany.
New members welcomed
Worldsteel has confirmed the addition of several new members.
New regular members include Almaadi Steel, Dongkuk Steel Mill, Grupo AG, Hydnum Steel, İçdaş, Marcegaglia, and Steel Dynamics, while K1-MET GmbH has joined as an affiliated member.
Sustainability champions recognized
The association has also announced its 2026 Steel Sustainability Champions, recognizing 14 producers for their sustainability performance and engagement in 2025. The program, now in its ninth year, highlights companies demonstrating strong commitment to sustainable development through participation in worldsteel initiatives and benchmarking systems.
The companies named as 2026 Sustainability Champions are ArcelorMittal, China Steel Corporation, EMSTEEL, Gerdau, HBIS Group, Hyundai Steel, InfraBuild, JFE Steel, Jingye Group, JSW Steel, POSCO Holdings, Tata Steel, Tenaris, and Ternium. Among these, Tata Steel and Tenaris stand out as they have been recognized every year since the program’s launch in 2018, marking their ninth consecutive inclusion.
