Global crude steel production in November this year increased by 3.7 percent year on year to 136.3 million metric tons, according to the World Steel Association (worldsteel). In the given month, the average capacity utilization of steel mills across the globe was 70.7 percent, up 15 percentage points compared to November 2016 and down 2.2 percentage points compared to October.
In the first eleven months of this year, global crude steel production increased to 1.54 billion mt, up 5.4 percent year on year.
In November this year, crude steel output in Asia amounted to 92.39 million mt, up 2.8 percent, with 66.15 million mt produced by China, up 2.2 percent, 8.7 million mt produced by Japan, increasing by one percent, 8.35 million mt produced by India, up 4.2 percent, and 5.65 million mt produced by South Korea, decreasing by 0.9 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis.
EU-28 countries produced 13.98 million mt of crude steel in November, up 3.2 percent year on year. In November, Germany's output was 3.5 million mt, rising by 4.5 percent year on year, Italy's crude steel output was 2.18 million mt, up 3.3 percent year on year and Spain’s crude steel output amounted to 1.29 million mt, up 18percent year on year.
Turkey produced 3.1 million metric tons of crude steel in November, with a 7.3 percent increase from November last year. Iran's crude steel production in November amounted to 1.95 million mt, up 24.4 percent year on year. The CIS registered a crude steel output of 8.59 million mt in November, rising 0.8 percent on year-on-year basis, with Russia producing 6 million mt, increasing by 1.4 percent, and Ukraine producing 1.85 million mt, down 4.9 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
In North America in November, crude steel output totaled 9.68 million mt, increasing 8.9 percent, with the US producing 6.71 million mt, rising by 8.5 percent, and Mexico producing 1.6 million mt, down 3.1 percent, all on year-on-year basis. Crude steel output in South America in November amounted to 3.8 million mt, up 12.7 percent from November last year, with Brazil's output totaling 3.03 million mt, increasing 15.3 percent year on year.
