Global crude steel production in March this year increased by 1.7 percent year on year to 165.1 million mt, according to the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
In the January-March period this year, global crude steel production decreased by 0.1 percent year on year to 459.3 million mt.
In March, crude steel output in Asia amounted to 124.8 million mt, up 4.1 percent, with China’s output at 95.7 million mt, up 6.9 percent, with 7.5 million mt produced by Japan, decreasing by 5.9 percent, 11.4 million mt produced by India, rising by 2.7 percent, and 5.8 million mt produced by South Korea, moving up by 1.9 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis.
EU-27 countries produced 11.9 million mt of crude steel in March, down by 5.6 percent year on year. In the given period, Germany’s estimated output amounted to 3.3 million mt, down 0.5 percent year on year.
Turkey produced 2.7 million mt of crude steel in March, with an 18.6 percent decrease compared to the same month in the previous year. The CIS registered a crude steel output of 7.6 million mt, advancing by three percent on year-on-year basis, with Russia’s estimated output at 6.6 million mt, up 0.4 percent year on year.
In North America, in March, crude steel output totaled 9.3 million mt, falling by 2.6 percent, with the US producing 6.7 million mt, dropping by 2.1 percent, both year on year. Crude steel output in South America in March amounted to 3.5 million mt, decreasing by 7.6 percent compared to the same month in the previous year, with Brazil’s output totaling 2.7 million mt, falling by 8.7 percent year on year.
In the given month, Africa produced 1.4 million mt of crude steel, growing by 8.4 percent year on year. In the Middle East, crude steel output totaled 3.1 million mt, moving down by 17.5 percent.
