Austrian steelmaker Voestalpine AG has announced that it has officially opened its new state-of-the-art special steel plant in Kapfenberg. The investment volume amounts to around €467 million.

The new plant, the world’s most advanced in terms of digitalization and sustainability, is the first of its type to be constructed in Europe in four decades.

Once fully operational in the 2023-24 financial year, the new plant will annually produce around 205,000 mt of special steel for the international aerospace, oil and natural gas, and automotive industries.

In the financial year 2022-23 ended March 31, Voestalpine completed the plant and commissioned test production, as SteelOrbis previously reported.
