Vehicle production in Mexico grew 16.3 percent in June, year-over-year, totaling 331,707 vehicles, the fourteenth consecutive annual increase and it is the sixth time that the level of 300,000 units per month has been exceeded in the last 31 months (since December 2020), according to a SteelOrbis analysis of data from the national statistics agency, Inegi.
The annual increase of 16.3 percent is the most prominent in the last 13 years for the month of June, only surpassed by 102 percent in June 2010. For the same period, the production volume was the highest in the last four years.
The majority of production, 55.2 percent, was contributed by four companies: Nissan contributed 18.2 percent, General Motors contributed 14.4 percent, Ford Motors 11.5 percent, and Volkswagen 11.2 percent.
In the international market, the automotive industry in Mexico exported 286,291 vehicles, 20.5 percent more than in June last year. That volume is the highest in the last 31 months, second only to November 2020's 287,703 units.
Four companies contributed 60 percent of exports: General Motors 23.9 percent, Nissan 12.7 percent, Ford 11.8 percent, and Stellantis 11.6 percent.
Accumulated production in the first semester was 1.89 million vehicles and exports 1.56 million units, figures that represent annualized increases of 13.9 and 11.1 percent, respectively.
