Vale's iron ore exports down 11.7 percent in January-May

In May this year, Brazilian miner Vale's iron ore export volume totaled 19.32 million mt, up two percent compared to April and decreasing by 14.1 percent compared to May 2019, according to Brazil's National Union of the Industry of Extraction of Iron and Base Metals (Sinferbase). In the January-May period of the current year, Vale's iron ore exports fell by 11.7 percent year on year to 89.99 million metric tons.

Meanwhile, in May this year Vale's iron ore sales in its domestic market amounted to 952,000 mt, declining by 28.7 percent year on year and down by 10.5 percent month on month. In the January-May period of the year, Vale's iron ore sales in its domestic market totaled 6.09 million mt, decreasing by 7.8 percent as compared with the same period last year.
