Brazilian flats steelmaker Usiminas, through its transforming division, Solucoes Usiminas, announced it will supply steel tubes for a wheat mill in Rio Grande do Sul.

According to the steelmaker, it will supply tubes to what it claims to be Latin America’s first wheat mill to have a grain store totally made out of a metal structure. The company didn’t disclose how many metric tons of tubes it expects to supply, but a media report suggested Usiminas should provide around 429 mt to the project.

By providing steel to the wheat mill, Usiminas says it believes it can become a top supplier of tubes for new projects within this segment. The tubes will be manufactured by Tibre, which will use Usiminas’ Civil 300 structural steel.

Construction at the wheat mill should finish by September.
