US wire rod imports up 15.2 percent in January

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of wire rod totaled 69,466 mt in January 2023, up 15.2 percent from December but down 46.6 percent from January 2022 levels. By value, wire rod imports totaled $74.4 million in January 2023, compared to $63.7 million in December and $128.7 million in January 2022.

The US imported the most wire rod from Canada in January, with 26,242 mt, compared to 28,722 mt in December and 25,175 in January 2022. Other top sources of imported wire rod in January include Japan, with 15,207 mt; Mexico, with 10,562 mt; Germany, with 5,370 mt; and United Kingdom, with 4,216 mt.
