US wire rod imports up 1.0 percent in February

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of wire rod totaled 70,187 mt in February 2023, up 1.0 percent from January but down 30.5 percent from February 2022 levels. By value, wire rod imports totaled $67.1 million in February 2023, compared to $74.4 million in January and $97.3 million in February 2022.

The US imported the most wire rod from Canada in February, with 24,902 mt, compared to 26,242 mt in January and 22,215 mt in February 2022. Other top sources of imported wire rod in February include China, with 13,686 mt; Brazil, with 9,856 mt; Germany, with 6,270 mt; and Mexico, with 4,316 mt.
