National news sources reported Friday that Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based US Steel plans to lay off over half the workers at its McKeesport line pipe manufacturing plant, citing heavy import volumes as the reason. The workforce reduction is intended to match current demand to production levels. News reports cited a US Steel spokeswoman as saying that unfairly traded imports are the main culprit influencing the decision.
