US steel import permits down 14.2 percent in November

Based on the US Department of Commerce’s most recent Steel Import Monitoring and Analysis (SIMA) data, steel import permit applications for the month of November totaled 2,307,672 mt. This was a 14.2 percent decrease from the permits recorded in October and a 22.1 percent decrease from the October census import total.

In November, steel products with the largest total import permits include blooms, billets and slab at a combined 518,021 mt; HDG, at 196,536 mt; line pipe, at 182,428 mt; OCTG, at 155,656 mt; HRC, at 155,398 mt; and CRC, at 142,021 mt.

The largest sources of steel import permit applications in November were Canada (368,922 mt), Brazil (227,702 mt), Russia (235,809 mt), Mexico (218,744 mt), and Korea (164,814 mt).
