US steel exports decline 2.1 percent in September

According to US export data, monthly steel exports in September decreased 2.1 percent from August to total 721,501 mt. A year-on-year comparison shows a 3.1 percent decline. In terms of value, US exports in September totaled $912.3 million, compared to $931.1 million in August and $999.9 million in September 2015.
 
Exports to Mexico decreased 3.4 percent from the preceding month to 294,528 mt, and decreased 2.2 percent from September 2015. Exports to Canada decreased by 4.5 percent month-on-month to 353,231 mt, which is down 3.1 percent from a year earlier. 
 
Other major destinations for US steel exports in September include: India, at 7,925 mt; China, at 6,767 mt; Brazil, at 6,766 mt; Germany, at 4,080 mt; and Korea, at 3,343 mt.
 
Major products exported in September include HDG, at 104,305 mt; cut-length plates, at 84,344 mt; hot rolled sheets, at 71,963 mt; cold rolled sheets, at 48,276 mt; and plates in coils, at 39,713 mt.
