US standard rail exports up 17.7 percent in May

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of standard rail totaled 10,595 mt in May 2018, up 17.7 percent from April and up 3.8 percent from May 2017 levels. By value, standard rail exports totaled $10.1 million in May, compared to $8.9 million in the previous month and $9.4 million the same month last year.

The US shipped the most standard rail to Mexico in May with 6,327 mt, compared to 4,063 mt in April and 7,424 mt in May 2017. Other top destinations included Canada, with 4,041 mt. There were no other significant destinations (1,000 mt or over) for US standard rail exports in May.
