US standard pipe imports down 24.5 percent in August

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of standard pipe totaled 88,383 mt in August 2017, down 24.5 percent from July but up 46.8 percent from August 2016 levels. By value, standard pipe imports totaled $83.9 million in August 2017, compared to $100.3 million in the previous month and $51.4 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most standard pipe from Canada in August, with 14,646 mt, compared to 13,396 mt in July and 14,485 mt in August 2016. Other top sources of imported standard pipe in August include Thailand, with 13,907 mt; Vietnam, with 8,842 mt; United Arab Emirates, with 7,431 mt; China, with 6,090 mt; and Oman, with 4,619 mt.
