US raw steel production up 2.9 percent week-on-week

According to the American Iron and Steel Institute, in the week ending on March 3, 2018, US domestic raw steel production was 1,834,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 78.7 percent.

Production for the week ending March 3, 2018 is up 2.9 percent from the previous week ending February 24, 2018 when production was 1,783,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 76.5 percent.

Production was 1,747,000 net tons in the week ending March 3, 2017 while the capability utilization then was 74.9 percent. The current week production represents a 5.0 percent increase from the same period in the previous year.

Adjusted year-to-date production through March 3, 2018 was 15,374,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 74.5 percent. That is down 0.8 percent from the 15,505,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 75.1 percent.
